About g honey

Kicha kurda li emrîka

G honey was born out of a deep desire for a creative outlet that allows me to explore my identity within the diaspora. In my traditional Kurdish household, gold jewelry was an effervescent cultural staple. Jewelry holds various symbolic meanings in Kurdish culture. We find the history of our resistance in our jewelry, in the way it adorns our Kurdish dresses. Most of my work is inspired by childhood summers spent in Duhok, admiring my mother and aunts as they dressed in the most beautiful jewels and fabrics. To this day I frequent my homeland and am reinvigorated by the symbology and traditions of my people. These influences along with my experiences growing up on the East coast in the U.S., shape my designs and campaigns.

I graduated from the University of Virginia with a BA in biology and my Master's degree in Public Health. When I’m not working on G Honey, I’m working on advancing health equity for all, particularly for our communities of color. I believe intersectionality is key to building up our communities and standing up to injustice. G Honey is dedicated to serving the community by promoting equity & justice and giving back to organizations and individuals moving the mountain of the movement.
